MIS Student from 2007 to 2017
Next School: Applied Physics at
Eindhoven University of Technology
I have been at this university for just under a semester and so far I have really enjoyed it. The university puts great trust into students and lets them carry a lot of responsibility. At the TU/e seemingly everything apart from enrolment, exams and curriculum is organized by students. I think that the A-Levels did prepare me well. The skills learned in the A-Levels that will always be highly relevant is studying for exams because finals here are extremely tough. The knowledge of physics and especially that of mathematics prepared me very well for the beginning of the year and it served as a good foundation on which I could further my knowledge. It was quite easy to join TU/e since their requirements for BTN (Bachelor Technische Naturkunde) are: Three A-levels passed and two of which must be mathematics and physics; and at MIS students take a minimum of four.
MIS Student from 2012 to 2015
Next School: Willy Helpach Schule Heidelberg
I first started attending MIS in 2012 when I was in 8th grade. I stayed there for 3 years until I finished 10th grade and got my IGCSEs.During my time there, I had a very good time and learned a lot in each of my classes. I made a lot of new friends and got along well with all of the staff members and teachers.
After MIS, I went to the Willy Hellpach Schule in Heidelberg where I attended 11th and 12th grade. I am currently in my final year of high school.
Regarding the academic level of both schools, I found MIS to be slightly more challenging as they follow the Cambridge system of education which is a little more prestigious in comparison to the German abitur. Furthermore, there are only 4 to 5 classes you need to study for to pursue the A-levels whereas you have to take 12 classes in the German system.
One key difference I found between the schools was the size of the learning environment. At MIS you learn in smaller groups which helps you to better focus on the subject being taught whereas in the Willy Hellpach Schule you have a lot more people in classes and in the school. The amount of students can at times make it difficult to learn but it is very possible if you try to pay attention.
Once I had gotten my IGCSE results, getting into the new school wasn’t really difficult even though they didn’t have much space left.
