Metropolitan International School has been authorised as an IB World School. We will begin the IB Diploma Programme for the Grades 11 and 12 from September 2020.

The IB Diploma programme is recognised in Germany for the Sixth Form or College qualification students need to gain before going to university.

The Diploma Programme is made up of the core and 6 subject groups. The core which consists of TOK, Extended Essay and CAS is the heart of the Diploma. All three of the core subjects are embedded within the subjects the students will take.

TOK : Theory of Knowledge – Students learn about the theory of knowledge and how we know what we claim to know, understanding the philosophy behind knowledge.

Extended Essay  - Students undertake independent research and work towards a 4,000 word paper on a subject of their choice.

CAS : Creativity, Activity, Service – Students complete a project based on all three strands of CAS.

The six subject groups are as follows:

  • Studies in Language and Literature
  • Language Acquisition
  • Individuals & Societies
  • Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • The Arts

Students have the choice between the sciences they would like to take. Initially, MIS will offer the following subjects for the IB Diploma:

English Language A; German Language B; Economics; Biology; Physics; Chemistry & Mathematics.
