At our Early Learning centers, we offer a full day, trilingual nursery, kindergarten and preschool. The MIS Reception programs in Germany offer full daily instruction in English, German and Spanish, and in Geneva offers full daily instruction in English, French and Spanish. All centers provide rotational Art, Music and Sport classes, a strong emphasis on early Mathematics and Science, and student preparation for the MIS Primary School Curriculum, the Cambridge Primary Program (CIPP).

Skills Acquired in Reception I and II

MIS Reception I (ages 3 and 4)

In the first two years of Reception/Kindergarten, most time is spent on learning to separate temporarily from the family home, the child's developing personality, and initial contact with a foreign language.

We focus on fun learning areas such as:

  • Fine motor skills;
  • Social skills;
  • Learning with music and song;
  • Getting to know letters, numbers, colors and forms;
  • Writing one's own name; and
  • Playful learning projects in English, German and Spanish.

MIS Reception II (age 4 to 6)

In the Kindergarten/Preschool the focus is on assuming responsibility for one's actions and acquiring cognitive skills. Children are prepared for primary school in all sorts of different ways. The aim is to have completed Stage 1 of the Cambridge Curriculum by the end of Reception II.

We focus on fun learning areas such as:

  • Continuing work on fine motor and social skills;
  • Beginning lessons in Mathematics, English, Science, Technology and Social Studies based on the Cambridge Preschool Curriculum;
  • Supporting healthy choices, nutrition and good hygiene;
  • Playful learning projects in English and German; and
  • Regular term feedback to parents.

Festivities and Customs

In our Early Learning classrooms, we celebrate numerous international festivities and customs with our students such as Carnival, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Cinco de mayo, Thanksgiving, Halloween, St. Martin's Day, Saint Nicholas Day, International Family Day and Chanuka.

We also look forward to Christmas during Advent and host a Christmas Bazaar. Toy days and the Kindergarten Festival are also fixed dates in the Kindergarten year.
