School Clubs and Music Lessons

At MIS we strongly believe in the value of enrichment activities that compliment academic and personal development. We do our best to offer a range of diverse activities for students to help explore additional skills, interests and talents.

Students are strongly encouraged to engaged in extra-curricular activities, whether within the school or with external clubs and local offerings. 

MIS Music

MIS embraces all opportunities around music and theater. Our music program is a beloved focal point of our school, and is enjoyed by many students, whether it be in a class setting or private lessons with our world class musicians.  These lessons often take place during the school day, or directly after school when there is availability. There are numerous opportunities to learn and perform throughout the year including school concerts, class performances and annual celebrations.

Below is a list of musical lessons currently available through MIS. 

 
VOCALS

Alexandra Mayr is a German singer-songwriter.  She has been singing and performing on stage since she was 3 years old, and studied at the Popakademie Mannheim from 2007-2010.  Since 2007, she has been giving singing lessons, band coaching and workshops at many different schools and kindergartens, and well as for companies including BASF and Deutsche Bank.

PIANO

Peter Anthony, born in London, England, has over 30 years experience as a professionally performing musician, singer, songwriter and composer. He has studied in London, Leeds, Heidelberg, Milton Keynes, Trossingen and Bath, and has 25 years experience as a qualified teacher of piano, keyboards and music production.

DRUMS/CAJON/PERCUSSIONS

Since his early childhood, Tom Beisel has been passionate about drumming. He playing in the school band and in 1981 founded with friends the band “Fall Out”. Membership in various bands followed, and beginning in 1988 Tom became a professional musician and continued to play in numerous bands. As a freelance musician he has worked together with a huge number of amazing artists.

CELLO - NEW

Nico Benning began to play cello at the age of 6. In 2019 he enrolled at the Musikhochschule Mannheim and is currently studying music there. He recently joined our team of gifted musicians at MIS.

GUITAR

Oliver Kuka’s started to play the guitar when he was 12 years old. His resume includes private lessons, various adult education classes, teaching at the music school in Rauenberg, State School for the Blind Ilvesheim, music school Dielheim/Horrenberg , and music school in Studio City West Heidleberg, Oliver has a great passion for live music and for playing the guitar, which he will pass on to the students of MIS!

VIOLIN

Veronika Miecznikowski was born in Switzerland and is currently studying at the Musikhochschule Mannheim for a Bachelor of Music. She started playing the violin at 4 years old and has won various national and international competitions since then. We are happy to have her in our team since 2021.

Academic Clubs

 Academic clubs offer students another way of being engaged outside of the regular classroom setting, and often helps students learn a skill that becomes invaluable in their future, supporting interests such as career fields, technology and special interests. 

We currently have Chess, Debate and Computer Club taking place! 

Participation also helps students meet more like-minded friends, learn about topics that interest them, and looks great on college admissions, scholarship and job applications, as it shows that students are engaging in new opportunities. 

Academic clubs also open doors for fun field trips, volunteer opportunities and working closely with mentors who offer invaluable knowledge and expertise.

Sports After School Activities (ASA)

As the Physical Education department at MIS, we are confident that after school sports programs and collaborations with local sports clubs can significantly enhance students' engagement in fulfilling both their athletic and social needs. These opportunities nurture the hidden talents and ignite the passion within our students, inspiring them to pursue personal success and, most importantly, lead healthier lives.

How to Register

  1. Print the Registration Form and email it to the contact listed below for the specific activity you are interested in. 
  2. The trainer/club will follow up and communicate with you the time schedule, necessary equipment, and all information needed for the course.
  3. You will be asked to fill out a brief sports contract, which will be provided by the trainer.

GOLF

In this course, students of any level/handicap, can improve their golf skills on the golf course. Golf Club Mannheim Viernheim (GCMV) is one of Germany's oldest golf clubs, and two-time winner of the German national team championship! We are happy to partner with such an incredible club and give our students the opportunity to be part of their established youth academy.

Please note: Students for this course will be picked up at MIS after school to travel to the Golf Club Mannheim Viernheim location.

PARKOUR
Parkour, the exhilarating art of mastering efficient movement, has found its home in the vibrant heart of the Rhein-Neckar district: Welcome to SPRING!BAR! Whether you're ready to leap, dash, conquer obstacles, or even defy gravity with flips, our doors are wide open for you to dive right into the thrilling world of Parkour. Join us and let the adrenaline flow as you explore the limitless possibilities of movement!

GRAPPLING

In this course, students will be introduced in movement, mobility, and playful forms to eventually know and master a series of fundamental techniques, submissions and principles. In grappling you attempt to have positional control over an opponent to score points or win with a submission technique. Since this martial art mainly takes place on the ground, it is considered a highly effective form of self defense.  (There is a maximum of 20 students for this course.)

JUDO

In this course children first learn to fall and roll. This is a perfect start for a child's athletic development and lowers the risk of injury (also in other sports). Furthermore, judo has a positive influence on the social skills of children; they learn to mediate and regulate physical contact, emotions and discipline. Judo also increases physical and mental resilience and gives children more self-confidence.

TISCHTENNIS / TABLE TENNIS

While this sport is typically associated with vacations and camping escapades, our classes are here to turn up the fun factor. Joining these sessions isn't just about honing your technique; it's like strapping a turbo booster onto your Table Tennis journey! You'll discover that Table Tennis isn't just a casual pastime—it's a thrilling Olympic sport waiting to be unleashed. Dive in, and let the ping-pong pandemonium begin! 🏓💥
